Final Evaluation:

Selecting my portfolio images was quite hard. Throughout my project I had taken a wide range of

images to explore every aspect of a plants that I liked.

In order to create my portfolio, I had to remove some photos that didn’t really fit in with the rest,
in order to create a cohesive body of work. So first I decided to go through all my shoots and take
out the images that did not fit, this included my work records 2 and 4. These images-even though
I believed some were good images- were different form the rest due to work record 2 being black
and white edits and work record 4 having a model in it. This left me with my images from my
work record 1,3,5,6,7,8.

Research of my project has been extremely influential in my work. Looking into other images of.
For example, I was certain I wanted my work record 1 & 2 to show the process of dying flowers.
In this shoot I was influenced by my research of Imogen Cunningham and Sarah Jones. The
research helped me with the set up as Jones gave me the inspiration for the snoot lighting and
also with the editing as i de-saturated my photos and in my next shoot i will make the photos
more black and white with contrast like the images by Cunningham. Carrying on with my
project, I went on to take multiple shoots in forests of wild flowers. These shoots were
influenced by Andrea Jones. For example, work record 7, myresearch of Andrea Jones helped
as it gave me the influence of my pink flower photo by making the background blurred with the
sun shining through, making it look like Jones' berry picture as shown below.

In this project, I tried a bit of experimenting. Due to the current crisis I had to do this shoot from
home without studio lighting or a model, therefore I used a lamp I had and my remote control
app on my phone to take the pictures. Due to this I had trouble setting the photo up right and
caught my hand in the image holding the plant. I then went on to experiment with my edits of
my photos by using different flowers from different photos I had taken and coping them over to
my best images. I did this by quick selecting a flower and then creating a feather on the mask
and then copying it over. Once it was on the original image I transformed it by scaling and
rotating in order to make the flower sit right on the models body. My next step was to blur
around the image to make it less obvious that it was from another picture. Below are some
screenshots of my editing.

Work Record 8

Preparation:

In this shoot, i will be developing on my forest/field walk - taking more photos of wild flowers and plants
Artist Research:

Andrea Jones:

Raised in the south of England by her Mother who loved gardens and Father who loved photography, she became fascinated and inspired by naturally occurring art forms.

'Trees and plants each have their own character. Many change their clothes depending on the season, some disappear into the ground when the climate changes. Others appear in the warmth of the early morning light, stun me with their beauty and then drop their petals before my eyes. Some refuse to wake up until late and only consent photography in the full sun. I love spending hours getting to know their intimate secrets through my camera lens.'

Editing &AO2Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.

I used my Nikon D3500 camera to take these photos. I tried to adjust the camera setting, like shutter speed, aperture and ISO to make the photos look their best.

I then went on to edit my best images by changing the curves and levels, sometimes burning and dodging to add shadows on certain parts of my image. I then increased the contrast.

A03:Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.

My idea for plants was to photograph both bright lively plants and flowers. I was inspired from my research of Nick knight and Imogen Cunningham in previous work records and my research of Andrea Jones.
The images came out as I expected, however I wish I had taken photos with different compositions to create a wide variety .

Best selected images...
The last image was at a low angle so that I had a Ray of natural light shining on the top but also creating shadow and different tones. I also wanted to capture the simple detail of within the flowers.

A01: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.

The artist research was helpful as I liked that I could take photos of flowers in different ways and could show different combinations of colours. My research of Nick Knight helped me focus on both natural colours made by flowers but also abstract colours through photoshop. My research of Jones influenced me to take photos with blurred backgrounds and with the sun shining through, making it look like Jones' orange flower picture as shown above.

A04:Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.

Editing &A02:

I shot with my Nikon D3500 in a natural setting whilst on a dog walk, so couldn't take a tripod. The settings for my best images are as follows:
Shutter speed= 1/125
Aperture=f/5.6
Zoom=55mm
I then went on to edit my photos by changing the curves and brightness to make the contrasts better.

A03:Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.

My intentions towards this shoot was to photograph the nature of flowers. I was inspired from my research of Andrea Jones and how her photos can show a misty atmosphere and a focal point with blurred background. The images came out as I expected, however I had forgotten to take my telephoto lens out so I didn't get as much detail as i could have.

With regards to some of the images that did not come out as I expected, some images lacked focus and detail due to not having the time to correctly position my camera or having the right equipment.   I believe I can overcome these issues in another shoot if i took my second lens out.

A01: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.

The artist research was helpful as I realised that there are many ways I could take the topic of plants but how my focus on flowers would highlight my full potential.  My research of Andrea Jones helped as it gave me the influence of my pink flower by making the background blurred with the sun shining through, making it look like Jones' orange flower picture as shown above

A04:Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.

The final images produced were refined by developing the contrast and curves.
