Preparation:

In this shoot I will be taking photos of flowers at the start of blossoming and fully blossomed.

Artist Research:

Nick Knight.

Nick Knight's has a reputation for pushing boundaries technically and creatively at every opportunity. He has worked on a range of often controversial issues during his career - from racism, disability, ageism, and more recently fat-ism. He continually challenges conventional ideals of beauty.Born in London in 1958, Knight studied photography at Bournemouth & Poole College of Art and Design. He graduated with a distinction in 1982.

       The above images showed a variation of colour in many ways. For example, more colours are created with the melted flowers, as the colours of each flower mix together. The melted flowers give a more dramatic look. The last photo shows analogous colours to create a soothing effect which contrast with the 4th photo which has complimentary colours of blue and pink to addd dimension.

I took inspiration from Knights photos and tried to find colourful flowers that I could then later on edit by adding saturation to add effect.

Images that Need improving:

These images were selected as I feel they were not the right angle. The first photo is a good composition however the image is a bit dark, so would need some editing to make it better.

I feel these photos are very basic and don't have a good background. 

The second image shows different colours of the flowers contrast to the green. I like this photo because there is many types of colour with the leaves and background etc. However I don't like the focus.

Editing &A02:

    I shot with my Nikon D3500 in a natural setting whilst on a dog walk, so couldn't take a tripod. The settings for my best images are as follows: Focal length 41, shutter speed 1/400, aperture 3.0 and ISO 125

    I then went on to edit my photos by changing the curves levels and the de-saturated the flowers to make them not as bright.

A03:Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.

My intentions towards this shoot was to photograph the nature of flowers and blossom tress at the start of spring. I was inspired from my research of Nick Knight and colour. The images came out as I expected, however I had forgotten to take my telephoto lens out so I didn't get as much detail as i could have.

With regards to some of the images that did not come out as I expected, some images lacked focus and detail due to not having the time to correctly position my camera or having the right equipment.   I believe I can overcome these issues in another shoot if i took my second lens out.

A01: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.

     The artist research was helpful as I realised that there are many ways I could take the topic of plants but how my focus on flowers would highlight my full potential.  My research of Nick Knight helped as it gave me the idea to take photos of plant heads. 

A04:Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.  

The final images produced were refined by developing the contrast and curves.

My next shoot will be developing on my forest/field walk in shoot 3 and 5- taking more photos of wild flowers and plants.

Preparation:

In this shoot i will be going back to the field form shoot 3 in the evening and taking photos in the evening light.

    I then went on to edit my photos by changing the curves and brightness to make the contrasts better.

My intentions towards this shoot was to photograph the nature of flowers at the a sunset glow. I was inspired from my research of Marcus Clackson and my research of blossom trees of Pinterest and their use of natural sunlight hitting the flowers. This lighting highlights a certain part of the image and created shadows as the sun shines through the tress onto the purple flowers. The images came out as I expected, however I had to pay particular attention to getting the focus and not having shaky hands due to no tripod.

Preparation:

In this shoot I will be taking a different approach by using models and plants covering them.
Artist Research:Kristen Hatgi:

Kristen Hatgi Sink was born in 1984 in Denver, Colorado, where she currently lives and works. She earned a BFA at the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Her work has been exhibited at venues across the country and abroad, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver

images that need improving :

The image above is a example of one of my images that needed improving. Due to the current crisis I had to do this shoot from home without studio lighting or a model, therefore I used a lamp I had and my remote control app on my phone to take the pictures. Due to this I had trouble setting the photo up right an caught my hand in the image holding the plant. 

Editing &A02:

     I shot with my Nikon D3500 in a natural setting whilst on a dog walk, so couldn't take a tripod. The settings for my best images are as follows: focal length 48mm, shutter speed 1/125, aperture f/5.3 and ISO 12800

    I then went on to experiment with my edits of my photos by using different flowers from different photos i had taken and coping them over to my best images. I did this by quick selecting a flower and then creating a feather on the mask and then copying it over. Once it was on the original image i transformed it by scaling and rotating in order to make the flower sit right on the models body. My next step was to blur around the image to make it less obvious that it was from another picture. Below are some screenshots of my editing.

     My intentions towards this shoot was to photograph plants covering the model. I was inspired from my research of Kristen Hatgi and how the flower heads are placed on the model as if they are stuck on them. My lighting highlights a certain part of the image and created shadows, which is due to not having the right equipment.  Due to the current crisis I had to do this shoot from home without studio lighting or a model, therefore I used a lamp I had and my remote control app on my phone to take the pictures. Due to this I had trouble setting the photo up, if i was in the studio i would have got someone to hold to flowers off camera so i wouldn't have to balance them or hold them myself. The images came out as I expected, however I had to pay particular attention to getting the exposure right due to the orange tint of light    

With regards to some of the images that did not come out as I expected, some images lacked focus and detail due to not having the time to correctly position my camera or having the right equipment.   I believe I can overcome these issues in another shoot in the studio.
